Emily Davison fought for the right for women to vote. On Derby Day, back in 1913, she leapt onto the racetrack, and, while attempting to fix a suffragette flag to a race horse, lost her life. A return train ticket found in her possession suggests she wasn't intending to martyr herself. But the impact of her dramatic gesture played a part in the success of her cause.
