PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

Monday January 24

Mars into Capricorn

While ambition without action is a wish list unlikely to be fulfilled, action without purpose is just as likely to get you nowhere fast. As dynamic Mars enters Capricorn today, flights of fantasy aren't on the agenda and wild geese will remain un-chased. This celestial event brings practical ways to channel energy that lead to solid gains and tangible success. If that sounds boring or mundane, don't worry. Once we start to see the results, drive and enthusiasm won't be in short supply.

Mice and Men

'The best-laid schemes of mice and men, often go awry, and leave us with nothing but grief and pain, for promised joy'. Given that it's Burns Night and retrograde Mercury is returning to Capricorn tomorrow, it seems appropriate to quote the great Scottish poet. But, although not everything's guaranteed to go to plan, as long as we take a gentle, pragmatic approach it will lead to more nuanced understanding and better informed opinions that make more joy a realistic prospect. That's something worth celebrating!

TV Royalty

This weekend Oprah Winfrey, the original Queen of Daytime TV, celebrates her birthday. Ellen Degeneres, who turns 64 today, is the current monarch. But when Ellen quits this year, will the next pretender to the crown be another sociable Aquarian? Actually, Jennifer Hudson, a Virgo ruled by communicative Mercury is tipped to lay claim to the chat-show mantle. With retrograde Mercury entering Capricorn today, we all have more to learn on the way to becoming the finished article.

Cruisin'

A month ago, when Mercury first converged with Pluto, there were widespread worries about Covid's Omicron variant. Now, although still a cause of concern, some of those fears have proved less troubling than we thought. As retrograde Mercury prepares to link again with Pluto, fearful thoughts are reappearing. While ploughing ahead like Edward Smith, the captain of the Titanic, whose birthday is today, isn't a good idea, with careful manoeuvring, arduous journeys can become pleasurable cruises.

Friday January 28

Baggage Drop

This weekend Venus changes direction after six weeks of retrogradation. It hasn't been an easy time... but it will prove invaluable. As the planet of love moves forwards, it brings a chance to re-evaluate. Although many goals remain important, it's time to shed some of the baggage weighing on our hearts. Life needn't be so hard. With retrograde Mercury re-converging with mysterious Pluto, the lessons we've learned can transform our experience of challenges - and translate them into successes.

Your February Monthly Horoscope

There are lots of films featuring time loops, but few have achieved the heart-warming success of Groundhog Day. It's the combination of frustrating repetition with the realisation that love subtly changes things that makes it a classic. With the planets creating a similar effect in our skies this month, February will be memorable for the right reasons. Mercury's turn direct brings solutions to repetitive problems, while the unusually long Venus/Mars link promises love. In doing the best we can do, we'll find satisfaction.
