PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

November 8 2021 to November 14 2021

Monday November 8

Carrot or Stick

The carrot or the stick? It's an age-old question. Ironically, given his profession, chef Gordon Ramsay (whose birthday is today) uses the verbal equivalent of the stick to get results. While that sort of technique might work with some people, others require gentle nurturing to fulfil their potential. Since Mercury spent the weekend being encouraged by harmonious Venus, a softer approach is appropriate today... particularly because the planet of communication's preparing to meet fiery Mars. Issues will come to the boil.

Tuesday November 9

Channel Flannel

In recent weeks, like a couple in the middle of an acrimonious breakup, the UK and France have been engaged in a dispute. Someone should tell them there are plenty more fish in the sea! Actually, perhaps that could be better phrased... Yet, whether it's trade deals or chore allocations, no relationship's perfect. If we want to find reasons to get upset with someone, we rarely have to look hard. That's why it's so important to choose what we look for. Today, by choosing hope, we can make meaningful breakthroughs.

Wednesday November 10

Nobel Intentions

Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, hoped his work would end conflict. He believed that civilised nations would recoil in horror from using it in warfare. Sadly, we know how that turned out. Today, as the UN focuses on the way scientific advancements can further peace across the world, we can't forget the other side of the coin. As Mercury and Mars converge and link to Saturn, we face choices. An exciting idea can change life for the better. But when striking this match, we need to protect our fingers from the flame.

Thursday November 11

Walk the Talk

Image is important. Carefully crafted messages and managed reputations can carry us a long way. But sooner or later we all need to be able to walk the talk. You can't fly about on private jets if you want to be the face of environmentalism. And, on Armistice Day, it's no good talking peace if our actions spark conflict. As the Sun prepares to link with Neptune, we can find the willingness to forgive honest mistakes. But we must also be ready to identify where veils have slipped to reveal what's hiding behind the facade.

Friday November 12

The Clamour of Glamour

It was Leonardo DiCaprio's birthday yesterday. Today it's the turn of Ryan Gosling, Anne Hathaway and the late Grace Kelly. As the Sun and Neptune highlight glamour and beauty, it's easy to see what these stylish icons have in common. But while images attract attention, they don't bind us together. This weekend the Venus/Jupiter link brings philosophical feelings and moral values to centre stage. While we don't have to agree with everything someone says, we can still appreciate who they are and what they mean to us.

Saturday November 13

Your Weekly Horoscope

In the words of stand-up comedian Simon Munnery, 'when the crowd gets behind you, you're probably facing the wrong way'! This week's exact Mars/Uranus opposition brings innovative ways to get attention; with a light-hearted approach, we can build rapport and find ways to avoid confrontation and negative critiques. The Lunar Eclipse brings the confidence to share visions of the future in accessible ways. And, if we focus on the bigger picture, we'll find satisfying ways to meet our needs, and have fun!
