PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

October 11 2021 to October 17 2021

All Change

At the end of 2020, when looking at the year ahead, the cosmic signs suggested that midsummer would bring a lessening of the Covid nightmare and its restrictions. But I suspected we'd have to wait until October before seeing really positive change. Today, Saturn becomes the second of four planets to start moving forwards this month. With the planet of hard work and restriction no longer reversing through the sign of society and progress, the pathway to freedom should become clearer and easier to follow.

The phrase 'man shall not live by bread alone' comes from the Bible. It remains as relevant and true as it was when it was written. Only focusing on our physical needs doesn't sustain us. To thrive, we need intellectual and spiritual stimulation too. That's why all work and no play makes Jack, not just a dull boy, but someone we'd prefer to avoid spending too much time with! As Saturn moves forwards, hard work's more likely to pay off. And with Venus involved, mixing effort with enjoyment is the key to progress.

Although half my family are from Yorkshire, because I grew up in a vegetarian household we rarely had a traditional Sunday lunch. It wasn't until I married a Sheffielder that I experienced the delights of Yorkshire Pudding! I've never missed eating meat; it was never a part of my diet. Yet once I discovered 'pud' I regretted the lack of opportunities I'd had to indulge in its delights. Today as Venus links with newly direct Saturn, we're reminded that conventions don't have to be restrictive. Today, look out for hidden pleasures.

Justice and Humanity

Justice is a human concept. Animals aren't held to account by courtrooms filled with other creatures and critters. Yet humans are part of planet Earth's great fauna too. So although our innate sense of right and wrong sets us apart from other animals, it isn't 'unnatural'. We know 'might' isn't always 'right'. And today, on what would have been George Floyd's 48th birthday, moral compasses start pulling strongly in one direction. It's a chance to choose a path towards equality, fraternity and progress.

Good Vs Evil

The Hindu festival of Vijayadashami celebrates the victory of good over evil. And while none of the planetary influences studied in Western astrology are considered malevolent, current cosmic indicators suggest that fighting for what's right is a priority. This weekend, with Pluto linking sharply to both Venus and the Sun, we'll need to mitigate, diplomatically, any unwelcome interference. With Jupiter and Mercury about to turn direct, we'll be able to rise above petty squabbles and enjoy the moral high ground.

Your Weekly Horoscope

As Mercury turns direct while linked with Venus, it encourages creative ideas that plot paths out of difficulty. Meanwhile, Jupiter's harmonic link with Mars will bring hope and optimism. So, is this the week when the restrictions we've been dealing with move into the rear view mirror? The cosmos is clearly inspiring bold steps forwards. And, even if it isn't enough to completely erase the 'mis' from our misadventures, the impetus we gain (emphasised by the Full Moon) will be a welcome boost in the right direction.
