TUESDAY OCTOBER 29 Quaoar Over the weekend, I met up with some fellow astrologers. They were getting very excited about Quaoar, the brand new planet, a billion miles past Pluto. On December 4, a lunar eclipse will occur exactly on top of this new discovery. It is as if the sky itself is urging us to look in this direction. When I remarked that Quaoar is an odd name, they got me to say it slowly, Kwa-Oh-Wah, over and over again. Then they pointed out that this is exactly how the ancient Tongva people of North America would have chanted the name of their creation god and heavenly protector! WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 30 Protest rally in Washington DC Dear Jonathan, On Saturday, I attended my very first protest rally - a huge event in Washington DC against the invasion of Iraq. Now, I have attended many sporting events and concerts and been in crowds from between 5,000 and 50,000 but there were more people there than I have ever seen in my life. I was inspired and thrilled yet, when I got home to North Carolina, the radio said that only 10,000 attended! Then I remembered what you had said about the enormous London march you went on and how it was played down by the press. What is going on here? Sincerely Anne S (by e-mail) THURSDAY OCTOBER 31 Celebrating Samhain Today, we celebrate Samhain, the old Celtic festival in which people honoured the spirits of their ancestors. The Church adapted this to create All Hallows Eve - a night in which only their saints were remembered. But Halloween determinedly retained its ancient association with all things magical and ethereal. Traditionally, it marked the end of one annual cycle and the start of another. Thus, it was seen as a night outside of time an evening when the veil between the worlds was at its thinnest. It was a time to reach out to those who have departed and be guided, by them, in methods of mediumship, divination and clairvoyance.
